The Role of Online Family Therapy

Coordinating schedules for multiple family members can be a significant barrier to accessing support. This format provides a flexible way to prioritise your family health from a private and comfortable environment, ensuring that every member has the opportunity to participate.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Online Therapy best for?

Online therapy is an effective option for many Australians seeking flexible support. It is often well-suited for:

  • Professionals managing demanding work schedules

  • Individuals residing in rural or regional areas with limited local options

  • Those who prefer the privacy of their own home environment

  • People requiring specialised care that is not accessible within their immediate vicinity

Sessions are held via a secure video platform where family members can join together from one location or multiple locations. Your clinician facilitates a balanced conversation to ensure that each family member has a safe space to contribute and be heard.

Yes. Many families find that children are more relaxed and engaged when participating from a familiar home environment. Our clinicians are experienced in managing online dynamics to keep sessions productive and age appropriate for all participants.

The initial session is focused on understanding the current concerns of each family member and identifying your shared goals. This provides a professional foundation for our work together and ensures everyone understands how the online therapeutic process will support your family.

Yes, each of our current therapists has over a decade of professional experience working in a range of settings and with a variety of presentations. All of our therapists are registered mental health professionals who have completed undergraduate and postgraduate studies in psychology, counselling or mental health. All are required to maintain their experience through regular professional development, including training and professional supervision. All of our therapists also have advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy  – a gold-standard treatment for relationship and family work.

Yes, as registered health professionals our therapists are required by their registering bodies to use evidence-based therapies in their practice. This means the techniques and strategies they use with you in therapy must have been shown in research to have a beneficial effect for the specific problems or challenges you’re bringing to therapy. No snake oil or quackery allowed.

We utilise high level, healthcare grade encryption for all video consultations to ensure your data and conversations remain confidential. We recommend that you join your session from a private, quiet location where you will not be interrupted, and use a secure internet connection rather than public Wi-Fi.

We are a privately billing clinic and each of our therapists charge different rates for their different services. Some services are eligible for a rebate under Medicare, DVA or private health insurance funding (with a valid referral or fund membership). Given this, it is best to enquire directly with our administrator, Marie. She can let you know the specific cost for the services you require, as well as any rebates which may apply. Taking rebates into account, fees for our services vary between $140-$350 per session, depending on what you need.

No. As mental health professionals, we work hard to follow all appropriate ethical codes and professional standards. We will never, under any circumstances, enforce any religious or spiritual beliefs, practices, judgements or opinions upon you.

We seek to meet you where you are and walk alongside you as you explore your spiritual and psychological needs through therapy.

At Connections Count you will be loved, respected and challenged to move towards wholeness, in alignment with your own values and worldview. We would be honoured to journey with you in support of your healing and growth.
